Our department works to create an inclusive and safe environment for people of all backgrounds. We have five diversity networks that advocate for staff from minority groups including the Gender Equity Network, the Cultural and Linguistic Diversity network, the Indigenous Employee Network, the Disability and Wellness Network, and the PRIDE network.

Our Pride network offers LGBTQIA+ people in the department connection and community. They advocate on behalf of LGBTQIA+ staff and raise awareness in the department on LGBTQIA+ matters. Two of our executive staff are PRIDE network champions and help to promote the networks activities both internally and externally.

Each year we celebrate Wear it Purple Day as a flagship event including a keynote and other training and awareness activities. These events generate a large audience of departmental staff and focus on raising awareness and generating meaningful discussions.

Some of our other pride initiatives include the departments involvement in the last APS Pride Summit, an inclusive language guide focusing on using gender inclusive language and a gender affirmative guide to support staff in affirming their gender in the workplace.
